What happened

Overhaul’s United States Q2-2026 Cargo Theft Report recorded 605 cargo theft incidents, a 5% increase from Q1 2026 and a 5% decrease from Q2 2025. The report highlights rising risk in the Southern California Red Zone and says activity is expected to increase during the second half of 2026. The figures describe recorded incidents and should be used as a risk signal, not as a guarantee about any particular lane or load.

What drivers should do

Before pickup, match the broker or customer’s instructions with the legal business name, pickup number, driver identity, tractor and trailer numbers, destination and seal information. Confirm any last-minute change through a previously verified phone number instead of relying only on a new email or text message. Photograph the intact seal when permitted, record the trailer number, keep the bill of lading secure and avoid posting load details or location information publicly.

Why this matters to our community

Use approved secure parking, minimize unplanned stops, lock the tractor and trailer, and follow the carrier’s check-in procedure. If cargo is missing or a pickup appears fraudulent, protect your personal safety, do not confront suspects, contact 911 or the local police, and promptly notify the carrier, broker, shipper and insurer according to the company response plan. Useful English terms include cargo theft, deceptive pickup, seal number, chain of custody, secure parking, incident report and law enforcement.
