What happened

PACCAR is recalling 58 model-year 2027 Peterbilt 548 trucks because the front brake valve and hoses may be the wrong size. The defect can delay rear service-brake application and release and increase trailer gladhand application time. The vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 121, and delayed brake response can increase crash risk. The campaign is PACCAR recall 26PACF and NHTSA recall 26V-544; owner letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 31, 2026.

What drivers should do

Owners and small fleets should check the truck’s VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup or contact a Peterbilt dealer now rather than wait for a letter. Peterbilt customer service is 940-591-4220; reference recall 26PACF. Dealers will replace the affected front brake valves and hoses free of charge. If the truck is leased or assigned, notify fleet maintenance or the lessor and keep the VIN, dealer instructions, appointment and completed repair record together.

Why this matters to our community

A recall check does not replace a pre-trip inspection. Drivers should monitor air pressure, warning lights and alarms, brake response, pulling, release behavior and gladhand connections, and report any abnormal delay immediately. Do not dispatch equipment that appears unsafe; follow the manufacturer or dealer’s instructions for the specific VIN. CDL students can practice these English terms: safety recall, service brake, application time, release time, gladhand, VIN, remedy and dealer.
