What happened

Averitt announced on July 29 that its updated regional-driver compensation took effect Aug. 9, 2026. Regional drivers now receive a base rate of 66 cents per practical mile, up from the previous top rate of 64 cents. The company also removed the separate lower mileage rate for drivers without a hazardous-materials endorsement. Averitt says regional drivers now average approximately $1,550 per week.

What drivers should do

The headline CPM is only one part of a job offer. Before applying or accepting, ask how many paid miles drivers actually average each week and whether the carrier pays practical, hub or another mileage method. Confirm detention, layover, stop, breakdown and per diem terms; typical home time; route area; benefits cost; equipment assignment; orientation pay; and any training repayment agreement. Ask for the complete compensation policy in writing.

Why this matters to our community

Averitt says drivers with a HazMat endorsement receive an additional $25 for each hazmat load, while all regional drivers can earn the same base mileage rate. That distinction is useful for Uzbek CDL students: an endorsement may create access to more freight or extra pay, but applicants should compare the full package and verify eligibility for the specific job. Useful English terms are practical miles, accessorial pay, detention, layover, per diem, home time and average weekly pay.
